COVID-19 Communiqué March 18

Dear Parents,
I hope you are all well and coping with the rapidly changing situation whereby we are all asked to support each other and make great sacrifices to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) so that we may do our part in combating this pandemic.
Like most educational institutions, the school is presently closed and will remain closed for at least two weeks after our March Break with a scheduled returning date after Easter Monday, on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Please keep in mind that, given the circumstances, the school closure may be extended and that a rescheduled returning date for the students to school may subsequently be announced.
In the meantime and faced with the challenge to secure the maintenance of the learning process while continuing to protect all members of our community, a decision has been made to shift our curriculum delivery at all grade levels of the school to the Google Classroom online platform, presently used by all teachers and students at the intermediary and secondary levels.
In preparation for its implementation after the March Break on Monday, March 30, 2020, we will contact you by the end of next week to provide you and the students with the new online instructions in order to initiate the remote instructional process. To that effect and given the fact that all La Citadelle students have already taken all of their textbooks, notebooks and supplies home prior to leaving for the March Break, I ask parents to secure a quiet and remote in-home area where the students may have their educational resources at their disposal, in addition to procuring the students with a computer or a tablet for on-line access to their teachers / subjects via Google Classroom and ask that you make the necessary arrangements for them to be ready to remotely follow via Google Classroom their regular daily timetable of classes from 8:40 a.m. till 3:45 p.m. while away from the school. Please note that technical support regarding the proper implementation of the Google Classroom platform will be made available to all parents via itsupport@lacitadelleacademy.com.
It is important at this junction that we support the children, in particular the young ones, while teaching them to assume their new challenges and responsibilities in a diligent manner and that you, the parents, monitor their activities so that they may learn and benefit from the experience.
For students at the secondary level, particularly those graduating at the end of this year from LIV, I remind them that they need to successfully complete the mastery learning of their curriculum and that their teachers will do their utmost to support them during this juncture.
I finally reiterate our commitment to serve and protect our community and wish that you and your family stay safe during this unusual moment in our lives.
Please stay in touch with us to provide us with any relevant updates on your travel, your health or your children’ health and send us feedback on the process and progress of the children during this new venture.
Have a great evening!
Alfred Abouchar
Headmaster
