La Citadelle is an IB World School, authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grade 6 to Level II (Grade 10). Every student in these grades is an MYP student. The MYP shares our commitment to a rigorous, holistic education: mastering each discipline in depth, connecting learning across subjects, and applying knowledge to the world.

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum
MYP students study eight subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design. Our students study both English and French at an advanced level and continue a third language, Mandarin or Spanish, a trilingual foundation that sets them apart.
Learning in Context
Students learn best when their learning connects to their lives and to the world. MYP units are framed by six global contexts that give each subject purpose and relevance:
- Identities and relationships
- Orientation in space and time
- Personal and cultural expression
- Scientific and technical innovation
- Globalization and sustainability
- Fairness and development
Through these contexts, students come to understand their common humanity and shared responsibility for the planet.

The IB Learner Profile
The MYP aims to develop students who are inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open minded, caring, risk takers, balanced and reflective. These qualities echo our own values of excellence, achievement, compassion, respect, discipline and harmony.
Clear and Consistent Assessment
All MYP assessment is criterion based. Student work is measured against well defined levels of achievement that are applied consistently across every subject, so students and families always understand what success looks like.
The Personal Project
The MYP culminates in Level II with the Personal Project, an extended independent inquiry on a topic of each student’s choosing. It brings together the skills developed throughout the programme and prepares students for the independent work expected in our Advanced Placement courses.
