Headmaster’s Excellence Scholarship* (For students currently in Grade 5 to Grade 10)

La Citadelle will be awarding 15 Headmaster’s Excellence Scholarships valued at $10,000 to students achieving 90% and above on their final Report Cards from their current school, as well as on their Entrance Exam ,will be eligible for the Headmaster’s Excellence Scholarship.

Headmaster’s Honour Scholarship*  (For students currently in Grade 5 to Grade 10)

La Citadelle will be awarding 20 Headmaster’s Honour Scholarships valued at $ 5,000 to students achieving 80% and above on their final Report Cards from their current school, as well as on their Entrance Exam, will be eligible for the Headmaster’s Excellence Scholarship.

*Applicants must submit the completed Application for Admission form, including an Academic Letter of Reference, a Character Letter of Reference and the June 2020, January 2020 & June 2019 Report Cards no later than December 31st, 2020. Applicants will then be required to complete an Entrance Exam onsite in English and/or French and Mathematics on Saturday January 16th, 2021. Applicants meeting the requirements will be considered for the Headmaster’s Scholarships and the decision will be communicated with the Offer of Admission Letter by February 1st, 2021. The Headmaster’s Scholarships cannot be combined with any other scholarships** offered by La Citadelle. All non-recipients of the Headmaster’s Scholarships will be automatically eligible for the 20th Anniversary Admission Scholarship. All scholarships apply to new students only and scholarship amounts will be applied towards the 2021-2022 tuition fees, are not transferable, are not cashable, and do not guarantee nor provide future scholarships. All dates are subject to change based on La Citadelle’s Health and Safety Protocol, as well as on any provincial and/or federal regulatory requirements arising from and due to the Covid-19 pandemic. La Citadelle is committed to enhancing access and equity within its selection process. All decisions are final.

Step 1 / Submission of Application Package

In order to be eligible for the Headmaster’s Scholarship, the following documents must be submitted to the Admission Office no later than December 31st, 2020:

  • Completed Application for Admission Form
  • Copy of applicant’s proof of age, name and status in Canada (passport, birth certificate or student Visa)
  • Completed Health Form
  • Copy of Health Card and Immunization Record
  • Copy of the 3 most recent Report Cards:
    • June 2019
    • January 2020
    • June 2020
  • Copy of Transcript (Secondary School Applicants only)
  • Current Photo (headshot only)
  • Academic Letter of Reference
  • Character Letter of Reference
  • English Proficiency Testing results (one of: TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, PTE Academic, OPI/OPIc – For International Applicants only)
  • Application Fee $200.00

Step 2 / Entrance Exam

Students in the Toronto Area:

The Entrance Exam will be held on Saturday, January 16th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

  • Applicants applying from English Language Schools will be tested in the subjects of English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants applying from French Immersion/French Language Schools will be tested in the subjects of français and mathématiques.

 

Out-of-Province & International Students:

The Entrance Exam will be held on January 23rd, 2021 via an online testing format.

  • International Applicants will be tested in the subjects of English and Mathematics.
  • Quebec Applicants will be tested in the subjects of  français and mathématiques (unless currently in an English school).

 


Step 3 / Admission

All information regarding admissions and scholarships awarded will be communicated on February 1st, 2021.

 


Step 4 / Enrolment 

To secure enrolment and scholarship, all enrolment and registration requirements outlined in the admission letter must be met.

 

 

 


F.A.Q.s

Who can apply for the Headmaster’s Scholarship?

New applicants, both Canadian & International, may apply for the Headmaster’s Scholarship.

Do I need to pay an application fee to apply? 

Yes, all applicants to La Citadelle must pay the $200 application fee when submitting the application package.

 

What is an Academic Letter of Reference?

An Academic Reference Letter details the applicant’s academic achievements, goals and provides an insight into the applicant’s character as a student and may include information about the applicant’s level of knowledge and skill.

 

Who can I ask to provide the Academic Letter of Reference?

An Academic Reference Letter can be submitted by any educator/instructor who can provide ample evidence of the applicant’s academic capabilities.  This could be provided by the School’s Principal or School Administrator, a Teacher or Coach or a Guidance Counselor.  The Academic Reference cannot be provided by someone related to the applicant.

 

What is a Character Letter of Reference?

A Character Reference Letter is a letter that can speak on the applicant’s character and abilities from a more personal perspective.  The character reference can also provide personal impressions on the applicants overall suitability as a potential student in the school and how they will enhance the school’s community by their admission into La Citadelle.

 

Who can I ask to provide the Character Letter of Reference?

A Character Reference Letter can be submitted by any person who has known the applicant for a lengthy period (usually over three years) and can confidently provide information of what they believe the applicant is capable of.  The Character reference can be a family member but cannot be a parent or sibling and cannot be the same referee as that of the Academic Letter of Reference.

 

What If My Marks Go Up?

Scholarships are based on the academic marks provided at the time of the application.

 

What If My Marks Go Down?

Scholarships are based on the grades provided at the time of the application and provided all conditions of enrollment are met, the scholarship will not be withdrawn.

 

I Have Won The Award, Is It Renewable?

Scholarships are not renewable.

 

Can I receive the Headmaster’s Scholarship as well as be receive other scholarships available at La Citadelle?

No, the Headmaster’s Scholarships cannot be combined with any other scholarship offered by La Citadelle.

 

If I am not a recipient of the Headmaster’s Scholarships can I apply for other La Citadelle Scholarships?

Applicants who do not receive the Headmaster’s Scholarship will automatically be eligible for the 20th Anniversary Admissions Scholarship.

 

Can I defer my Scholarship to another academic year?

No, all scholarships will only apply to students enrolling in the 2021-2022 academic year.

 

How will I receive my Scholarship?

All scholarship amounts will be applied directly towards the fees owing and will be deducted equitably on each payment due as per the family’s schedule of payment selected.

 

Can I use a portion of the Scholarship to pay the Admission fee?

No.  All scholarships will be deducted on the tuition fees amounts.
