The International Travel Experience

La Citadelle’s International Trip is much more than a travel experience—it’s a formative journey that helps students develop essential life skills during critical developmental years. As students explore iconic and historic cities, they are given the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, embrace new cultures, and learn firsthand about history, art, and society in ways that textbooks simply can’t capture.

These trips foster independence by requiring students to take on responsibilities they may not typically encounter at home. From managing their own schedules to navigating foreign environments, students learn time management, adaptability, and decision-making in real-world settings. Being away from home also encourages them to rely on their peers and teachers, fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and lifelong friendships across grade levels.

The sense of responsibility and personal growth cultivated during these trips aligns with La Citadelle’s commitment to developing well-rounded, globally-minded individuals. Students mature as they learn to respect different cultures, manage their own belongings, and represent their school in international settings. This immersive experience strengthens their confidence and problem-solving skills, equipping them with tools that will benefit them throughout life.

These school-run trips are a safe, structured environment for students to gain independence while being supported by experienced educators, making it a transformative experience that extends far beyond the classroom.

Field Trips & Excursions

At La Citadelle Academy, field trips and school excursions are more than just breaks from the classroom; they are vital to our holistic approach to education, deeply aligned with our core values of academic excellence, global citizenship, and community engagement. These experiences allow students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, fostering a deeper understanding of the world around them. By engaging with different cultures, historical sites, and diverse communities, students broaden their perspectives, promoting cultural awareness and empathy—essential qualities for global citizens.

Some of our cherished annual experiences include the Intermediary & Secondary School Start of the Year Overnight Leadership Camp and the Elementary Leadership Day Camp. These activities foster leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, while helping students form lasting bonds across the school community. The Stratford Shakespeare experience for our Intermediary and Secondary students enriches their appreciation for literature and the arts, connecting them with historical and cultural narratives in a unique setting. Our Grade 1 to Grade 7 Ski Program and the Winter Overnight Ski Retreat for Grade 8 to Level IV students complement our physical education curriculum, embracing the Canadian winter and encouraging resilience, teamwork, and self-confidence in a dynamic, outdoor environment.

Our annual school-wide Science and Arts excursions further exemplify our commitment to providing equal emphasis on all areas of learning. These trips ensure that students engage with the world of arts and sciences in ways that extend beyond classroom walls, sparking creativity, innovation, and critical thinking. They embody our values of academic excellence and a well-rounded education, where intellectual, physical, and emotional growth are nurtured in unison.

By participating in these carefully curated experiences, students not only gain knowledge but also cultivate self-discipline, responsibility, and a sense of belonging to a larger community. These excursions play a key role in shaping them into confident, compassionate individuals who are ready to contribute meaningfully to both their local and global communities. At La Citadelle, we believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and these experiences are essential milestones along the path of personal and academic growth.
