Growing in the Kindergarten Panel
At La Citadelle, the Kindergarten Program serves as an introduction to the school’s nurturing and dynamic environment, providing a strong foundation for academic, social, and emotional growth. With smaller class sizes and a dedicated team of early childhood educators, students benefit from personalized attention that fosters both curiosity and confidence during these crucial early years.
In Kindergarten, children are immersed in a predominantly French-speaking environment, even though most come from non-French-speaking families. Through fun, structured, and organic activities, students build communication, reading, and writing skills in both cursive and detached styles, while also learning mathematics, science, and creative play—all in French. Performance activities such as songs, plays, and group projects further engage children in the language, making French learning enjoyable and effective. This approach helps ease concerns for parents who don’t speak French themselves, as their children develop language proficiency naturally and confidently.
Kindergarten is also where students are introduced to the La Citadelle’s approach to teaching, with the introduction of Specialized teachers, participating in classes led by expert teachers in Physical Education, Music, and Art. These programs spark creativity, encourage physical well-being, and cultivate an appreciation for the arts, promoting well-rounded development. This early exposure to diverse subjects, teaching styles and subject based expectations, nurtures each child’s talents and prepares them for the academic learning to come at the Elementary Panel, where formal English as a first Language is introduced along with additional subjects (see Elementary Panel).
In the Kindergarten Panel, La Citadelle aims to instill in children a lifelong curiosity for learning, helping them to explore their unique skills and talents. By promoting independence, collaboration, and early cognitive development, the program provides the ideal starting point for a child’s educational journey.
