At La Citadelle, the Intermediary Panel (Grades 6 to 8) serves as a critical juncture in our junior high program, preparing students for the academic and personal challenges of secondary school. With smaller class sizes and specialized teachers, these pre-secondary years offer a nurturing and focused environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
In this stage, students begin transitioning from our bilingual program to more English-focused studies, while continuing to master advanced French as a first language. A key feature of the Intermediary Panel is the Language Stream for Mathematics, which allows students to excel in both Mathematics and French. This pathway is particularly designed for those aiming to enter our academically advanced program in preparation for the secondary stream, ensuring they can develop high-level skills in both fields.
For students joining La Citadelle without prior French experience, our Francisation Program offers comprehensive support, beginning in Grade 6, to help students develop the linguistic proficiency needed to fully integrate into our bilingual curriculum. This program plays a vital role in setting students on their path to becoming fluently bilingual. By Grade 8, all students at La Citadelle participate in our Reach Ahead Program, which offers an accelerated curriculum designed to bridge the gap between junior high and secondary school. This program challenges students with advanced coursework, providing them with a head start on high school-level studies and preparing them for the academic rigour of our secondary stream.
In addition to academic preparation, these years focus on the development of soft and life skills such as critical thinking, confidence, and innovative problem-solving. Students are encouraged to think independently, collaborate effectively, and take ownership of their learning as they develop the tools necessary for long-term academic and personal success.
This comprehensive approach ensures that each student is fully prepared for their next step into secondary school, fostering a strong foundation for leadership, responsibility, and academic excellence.
